Have you ever had a day where the kids are running circles around you? The house won't seem to stay tidy? The dishes keep piling up no matter how many times you've washed up? It just seems never ending.
Well you're definitely not alone. This week I feel like I've been through it. The big kid and the small kid have been on a hundred. I'm constantly repeating the same things over and over again and it feels like I'm talking to a brick wall. The baby can't talk as yet and has adopted this puppy dog humming sound, that pierces through my soul. It's a lot. I find myself wanting to book a weekend break away!
Through Covid and lockdowns I've not had 1 day to myself and sometimes it takes its toll. So I do what I can to participate in a bit of self care when I can.
Here are 5 ways you can get a little time to yourself:
1. Have a candlelit bath - the easiest and best way to relax whilst your children are in bed. Run a hot bath with your favourite bubble bath and scented candle. Create a relaxing playlist to mellow to and don't forget the bath salts.
2. Put on your comfy trackies or PJs - curl up on the sofa and read a book. Whether you indulge in some non-fiction or fantasy to lose yourself in a world of make believe. Or self help or business books to help you figure out your next move. Reading is always on the self care hit list.
3. Go for a walk - If you're like myself with a little one at home, strapping them in the pushchair and going for a walk is one of my favourite things to do. The baby is busy looking at the sights or more than likely sleeping. You get exercise, a chance to clear your head and have a bit of quiet time. It's a win win situation.
4. Meet with a friend or a fellow mum - a good chat over a cup of coffee does the world of good when you're feeling a little overwhelmed. Here you have a chance to pour your heart out, have a giggle and reconnect. Nothing like a girly meetup (even if you have the kids) to bring you back to your fun loving self.
5. Treat yourself to a spa day - relax and unwind in a jacuzzi, swim a few laps in the pool, sweat out your frustrations in the sauna and end it with a luxurious massage. (If you're fortunate enough to have childcare for a few hours).
Right, that's my time up. I'm currently doing no.1 and the baby has woken up so, got to run.
As hard as it is, try to schedule some time for self care.
Take care mummas.
