You've come to the realisation that, for you, you want something more. You want a vehicle that will help you to achieve the dream of living life on your own terms. You want to be in charge of yourself, your life, your finances, you want to "sack your boss" and do every day what sets your soul on fire. Yes, yes, yes I hear you say! But what does that look like?
You idealise the life of the "boss woman". Walking around in high heels, fashionable clothes and calling the shots. Earning 6 figures a year or more and living "the dream". So you start brainstorming, writing down all the ideas that you think will make you a millionaire. Stop!
I've come up with many many ideas over the years, some before their time and probably would have made me a very rich woman, but they failed, you know why? My heart wasn't in it so it wasn't executed well or executed at all. I'm not saying this is the case for all but it is the case for many.
When thinking about starting a business, yes it's a good idea to see the possible gaps in the market, a solution for what will make people's lives easier or to improve something that's already out there. However what I will say is, not only can you hone in on your skills that you already have but pursue a passion. These days any and everything can be monetized, just takes some creativity. You may write poetry for example. You don't have to go down the road of writing a poetry book, but how about writing for gift cards or short pieces for photo frames (yeah, this is one of my ideas lol).
Like the saying goes "do what you love and you will never work a day in your life" . Yes, the beginning stages and growing your business will take a lot of work, but it won't feel so taxing if you have the passion for what you are doing. The sheer love of it all will help you push through the times when you're tired with the late nights, when you feel like you're not making enough progress or that the odds are stacked against you, this is when your passion becomes the driving force.
So, write a list of all the things you love to do. Don't focus on the how as yet, just focus on the things that you enjoy. Is it dancing, travelling, fine dining, sports, ballet?
It could be as random as wearing your dressing gown, this one was on my list as I LOVE my dressing gown. I didn't know how it would make me money but I hoped it would! Maybe I would model for a dressing gown line but sometimes it works out differently, now I'll be paid not for wearing my dressing gown...but as I write all these blog posts and work from home...in my dressing gown, you see, not everything will be monetized in the way you want, but in another way you didn't even think of, then you can tick it off your list.
Once you have your list then the work starts. Think of how you can be paid to do what you love. Can you design a product? Provide a service? Create a club/discord and charge a subscription for your knowledge. The options are endless, just takes some thought, passion, drive and determination to succeed.
I encourage you to start writing your list, you never know where this simple exercise will take you, and what business you will come up with to take over the world.
Go be great!
